Third consecutive year of improvement to new record punctuality for UK charter flights
After a record 10-year low for charter delays in summer 2012, the summer 2013 season once again saw an improvement with the shortest average delays for charter flights at UK reporting airports. Delays have reduced by 43% in the last three years from an average of 28.5 minutes in summer 2010 to just 16.2 minutes in summer 2013.

On-time performance was 78% on average, two percentage points better than in summer 2012 and only 6% of flights were delayed by over an hour, compared with 7% the previous summer and 8% the summer before.

The month of June 2013 saw the longest charter delays at UK reporting airports, averaging 22 minutes, while October 2013 boasted the best timekeeping at around 12 minutes average delay.

Charter flight delays at UK airports during the summer 2013 season were the lowest recorded in over a decade.
The overall improvement in punctuality performance for the season was driven by a significant reduction in delays by Thomas Cook Airlines and Monarch Airlines charter flights compared with summer 2012, though neither carrier matched the performance of Thomson Airways, whose delays increased slightly compared to the previous summer but were still by far the lowest in their category.

Thomson Airways secured first position for timekeeping for the sixth consecutive summer season in 2013, with an average delay of 13 minutes and on-time performance of 81% achieved, only a slight fall in punctuality for the carrier compared with summer 2012.

Once again Thomson Airways was also the most punctual charter carrier at all eight UK reporting airports analysed during summer 2013, the second consecutive year the airline has achieved a clean sweep across the UK in a summer season.

Fewer than 1 in 20 Thomson charter flights was delayed by over an hour during the season (4.81%), compared to 1 in 14 Monarch charter flights (7.07%) and 1 in 11 Thomas Cook flights (8.71%).

Monarch Airlines followed as runner-up for the season, with a 29% reduction in their average delay from around 28 minutes in summer 2012 to 20 minutes in summer 2013, though their on-time performance level of 71% was seven percentage points lower than third place carrier Thomas Cook Airlines, whose flights were delayed on average by 21 minutes.
