Foreword
Slight increase for UK charter flight delays in 2014
Charter flights at UK reporting airports suffered a slight increase in delays during the summer 2014 season, though overall timekeeping was still at the second best level in the last 10 years with the average flight operating 17.7 minutes late.

On-time performance also suffered during the season, falling from 78% in summer 2013 to 72% in summer 2014. Around 6% of flights were delayed by over an hour, a similar level to the previous season, while extensive delays of three hours or more were at a record low of around 1 in 96 flights (1.04%).

In common with the summer 2013 season, the month of June saw the longest charter delays at UK reporting airports in 2014, averaging 20 minutes, while at the tail end of the season October once again boasted the best timekeeping at around 13 minutes average delay.

Charter flight delays at UK airports during the summer 2014 season were the second lowest recorded in a decade.

Analysis
Thomson Airways finished the season in first place for the seventh consecutive year in 2014, with an average delay of less than 16 minutes and on-time performance of 74% achieved, though this represented a 24% increase in delays for the airline compared with 2013.

Thomson was the most punctual charter carrier at seven out of eight UK reporting airports during the summer 2014 season, relegated into second place only at Newcastle airport.

Fewer than 1 in 20 Thomson charter flights was delayed by over an hour during the season (4.97%), compared to 1 in 14 Monarch charter flights (6.95%) and 1 in 13 Thomas Cook flights (8.00%).

Thomas Cook Airlines followed as runner-up for the season, with an 11% reduction in their average delay from around 21 minutes in summer 2013 to 19 minutes in summer 2014. The airline also boasted the highest on-time performance level among the UK charter carriers during the season at 76%. Monarch Airlines charter flights were the least punctual during the season, delayed on average by 19 minutes with 69% on-time performance.
