Foreword
Improvement for UK charter flight delays in 2015
Charter flight punctuality at UK Reporting Airports improved during the summer 2015 season, attaining a new second best level in the last 10 years with the average flight operating 16.7 minutes late, one minute less than during the previous summer season.

On-time performance remained relatively poor during the season for the second consecutive period, standing at 72% in summer 2015. Around 6% of flights were delayed by over an hour, a similar level to the previous season, while extensive delays of three hours or more were at a new record low of around 1 in 137 flights (0.73%).

Airline analysis for the summer 2015 season reduced to just two carriers, with Monarch Airlines ceasing charter operations at the end of the winter 2014 / 15 period. This is a significant contrast since 2007, when eight UK charter carriers were still analysed, and reflects the significant shift towards scheduled, including low-cost carriers.

Charter flight delays at UK airports during the summer 2015 season were the second lowest recorded in a decade.

Analysis
Thomson Airways finished the season in first place for the eighth consecutive year in 2015, with an average delay of 16.4 minutes and on-time performance of 71% achieved.

Thomas Cook Airlines followed very closely in second place for the season with an average delay of 16.7 minutes, a 6% increase compared with summer 2014, but achieving 76% on-time performance, a three percentage point improvement.

Top position by average delay was secured by Thomson Airways by a lower proportion of longer delays, with only 1 in 19 of their flights operating over an hour late during the season compared with 1 in 16 Thomas Cook flights.
